Overview

What Are Backing Tracks?

Backing tracks can be as simple as a series of clicks like a metronome or a full musical arrangement. The audio files usually contain a “click-track” which only the performers can hear and use to keep time and stay in sync digital accompaniment.

How Does It Work?

Generally, PA system amplifiers and speakers have a single output channel (mono), and most digital audio devices are stereo (two channels). The two channels in the stereo system get split into an output track sent to the PA speakers and a click-track sent to the performer’s in-ear monitors.

The Tools You Need

Performing with backing tracks can be challenging at first. You must learn to stay in sync with the click-track and there is not much room for flexibility. Backing Track Workstation has the tools you need to stay in sync with the click-track; display lyrics, chords and other cues; create setlists to quickly select and start your songs; and control stage lights for a full concert experience.
